Effects of Emotions and Ethics on Pro-Environmental Behavior of University Employees: A Model Based on the Theory of Planned Behavior

Over the last few years, many activities conducted by university employees have contributed greatly to global rise of greenhouse gases responsible for warming planet. This phenomenon can be attributed primarily altering lifestyle, consumption, and portability patterns. Even though there is a significant applicability, understanding factors determining pro-environmental behavior (PEB) lacking. Thus, this study extended theory planned (TPB) explain PEB among employees. Ten hypotheses were suggested regarding relations between initial TPB constructs, environmental ethics, emotional intelligence. A self-reported questionnaire was used collect data from randomly selected sample 302 six Malaysian higher educational institutions listed in UI Green Matrix 2016. The findings revealed that ethics significantly affected attitudes, perceived behavioral control, subjective norms. Furthermore, intentions (PEIs) directly influenced attitude while intelligence mediated relationship PEIs PEB. Moving forward, will provide new insights into literature employees’ using an expanded model.
